Visual appreciation of the transporter bridge, Teeside. The aesthetics of which will be used in the design response, utilising a dystopian response to the breakdown of industry & social ambition.

form investigation

the form investigation has used both physical & 3d models to date. The form focuses on engageing users of the square, closing off the sqaure. The facades will attempt to translate de-materialism, whilst the form will make a link to the industrial history, which heavily influenced the schools benefactors.

Work is now in full swing on background information for the Thesis project. The site has been confirmed as civic centre Middlesbrough. The site has many possibilities and is an exciting opportunity for a film school. Middlesbrough is an area in need of regeneration and has multiple programs underway to build for the future.

This kiosk provides a space for purchasing of tickets for transport & cultural events. It transmits purchasing data to LED's that give of light pulses behind the aluminium mesh facade, providing light and art for the space, created by the spatial users

Site Information

Further to Identifying a site, research has begun on the local history and development of the area, this uncovered a proposal for the very site chosen. This aids my final decision as I was at first unsure as to whether or not development of the site would be rejected. The proposed development is much larger on scale than the intended film school but shows that there are options to manipulate the site in its entirety to achieve a successful design outcome.

Further to my previous post, I have identified the site further, focusing on a Civic context. There is also a significant redevelopment in the immediate area, master planned by Will Allsop called middlehaven, which would also have presented an interesting design location (marked in blue)

The proposed site for the Thesis design is in the centre of Middlesbrough Civic district, and aims to revitalize this failing area, adding a link to the "digital City" and the successful University of Teeside.

Side Project

I'm currently working on a side project, called "EIK" (Ephemeral Interactive Kiosks!!!) these are to be based in Briggate, and interact with passes by, changing the users view of the street scape, and creating points of orientation and recognition. Its aiming to bring the public street back into ownership of society, as oppossed to retail.
Hopefully there'll be a rough sketch pic up soon, if I can ever fathem out how to do such a thing.
This project is currently seriously inhibiting my Thesis work however and i'm starting to resent it somewhat, hope it doesnt bite me!!!
